This video is about why it's harder to successfully land spacecraft and landers and rovers on Mars than on Earth, or Venus, or the Moon, or Titan, or asteroids. It all comes down to atmospheric density! When there's no atmosphere, you can do a powered descent in a flimsy tinfoil spacecraft like the Lunar Module, and when there's plenty of atmosphere you can do an unpowered descent via heat shield and parachutes like the space shuttle, Apollo command module, Soyuz, Huygens, etc. But on Mars with its thin air, you have to do both powered & unpowered descent, getting the worst of both worlds.

Why It's HARD To Land on Mars

that made me wish I got to moonlight as a fluffy animal

of becoming a young adult through the story

of a girl who turns into a giant red panda

we've probably all had the experience of being an awkward

and confused 13-year-old with a changing body

But is this movie about more than just that?

Let's find out in this Wisecrack edition on Turning Red,

which you can currently watch right now on Disney+,

So what can an animated film about a girl

tell us about the psychology behind emotional repression?

But first, let's meet our main character.

excels scholastically, can play a rippin' flute solo,

she's also deeply emotionally invested in a boy band.

Much of what's happening in Mei's life fits pretty well

of the psychosexual development of children,

where we go from disinterested in sex to horned up 24/7.

children begin to assert their own independence,

as they learn to love and care about others,

and Mei seem to be on the precipice of all of this.

In one early scene, her friends urge her to assert herself,

cancel plans with her mom, and come do karaoke.

not wanting to let her mom down on cleaning day.

everything seems pretty chill, until that night

into a pretty erotic picture of corner store hunk, Devon.

It's clear that Mei's expressing a type of unconscious lust

or desire, which, based on her reaction, seems new for her.

This suggests she might be entering the final phase

of psychosexual development in Freud, the genital stage,

seemingly hiding from the watchful eyes of, say, God,

and ended up accidentally inventing masturbation

when you were 13, then you know what we mean.

is the film's first clear example of repression.

Mei tries to hide the drawings from her mother,

This, of course, is exactly what happens.

Mei's mom can pounce her daughter's shame

to Devon and a bunch of Mei's classmates.

Freud can help us better understand what's happening here,

particularly in regards to Mei's initial repression
